Press ReleasesInstitute for OneWorld Health CEO To Speak at World Economic ForumNonprofit Pharma Shares Learnings, Vision with Global LeadersSan Francisco, CA - January 23, 2006 Victoria Hale, PhD, founder and CEO of the first nonprofit pharmaceutical company in the U.S., the Institute for OneWorld Health, will share her success and vision as a Schwab Foundation Social Entrepreneur with participants at this year’s World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. Dr. Hale will serve as a discussion leader for a session titled, “Defining Success,” at 12:30 p.m. on Jan. 27. In this role, Dr. Hale will guide a group of Young Global Leaders and Social Entrepreneurs in a dialogue about their visions of success. In addition, Dr. Hale will join other World Economic Forum attendees at various sessions that day, including, “Changing the Rules,” focused on the ascent of women leaders in organizations and, “Not Gone, but Almost Forgotten,” focused on diseases that primarily afflict people in developing countries. “This is a pivotal time in pharmaceutical science,” stated Dr. Hale. “We have the knowledge and technology to literally save millions of lives. The World Economic Forum provides us with the opportunity to engage some of the brightest minds in the world to address the roadblocks to developing affordable drugs for people most in need. The nonprofit pharmaceutical company is one model to address this problem, but we must continue to challenge existing methods to explore and develop other entrepreneurial approaches and solutions.” Following the World Economic Forum, Dr. Hale will attend the “Malaria and Neglected Tropical Diseases Quick-Impact Initiative.” It is part of the UN Millennium Development Goals, at the Nobel Forum, Karolinska Institutet in Stockholm, Sweden on Jan. 30 and 31.
