Status: Full time, Exempt
The Senior Director of Portfolio Planning, Project and Grant Development will be responsible for identifying potential new projects, sourcing in-licensing leads, and developing grant proposals to secure grants from foundations in conjunction with other functions at iOWH. S/he will provide business and financial analysis and create and pursue diligence requests. The Senior Director will also participate in review and analysis of pharmaceutical and biologic contracts for research collaborations and strategic alliances, product and technology acquisitions as well as licensing of intellectual property and manufacturing and distribution contracts.
Job Requirements:
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following; other duties may be assigned.
- Aggressively identifies, engages, and tracks in-licensing leads for a portfolio of project candidates; delivers capabilities presentations to prospective licensors
- Develops and maintains strong internal and external relationships to facilitate and accelerate due diligence and corporate visits, written communications, and contract negotiations with external parties
- Works closely with all functional areas and Senior Management Team to identify and evaluate the business and scientific merit of external development opportunities (in-licensing and collaborations), for portfolio development and analysis
- Provides portfolio context and analytics to senior management so that clear analysis is available to make sound and objective decisions
- Develops forecasts and P&L analyses for all business development and projects - including financial analysis as needed and makes recommendations regarding project actions
- Supports investment options prioritization and assists functions with resource planning aligned with portfolio
- Conceptualizes, prepares, writes, and edits grant proposals
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
- Advanced degree in science, engineering, business or a related field required
- Experience in non-profit business development, strategic planning, and grant application process is highly desirable
- Comprehensive understanding and experience in drug, vaccine, biologics, or diagnostics development processes is required, with minimum of 5 years relevant experience in pharmaceutical/biotech industry or public health setting
- Successful track record of in-licensing deals and securing grants is desirable
- Strong critical and strategic thinking skills combined with the ability to analyze and solve complex problems
- Ability to work highly independently, to prioritize competing tasks, and to work within a matrix team environment
- Exceptional oral and written communication skills, preferably in drafting grant proposals
